Maharashtra has a coastline of 330 miles which is approximately 530 km
along the Arabian Sea. Because of this, Maharashtra has a variety of serene
beaches.
When we talk about beaches, usually it is just the Juhu beach and the marine drive Chowpatti beach that comes to our mind because of their famous names. People really enjoy these two beaches with their families.
But, very few know that apart from these two, there are many more beaches in
Maharashtra which are beautiful and worth seeing.
When tourist places Maharashtra
are discussed, a knowledgeable guide will always tell you about the decent beaches
in Maharashtra. Another good point is that the coastal climate of Maharashtra
makes travelling pleasant all-round the year. Seas are rough only during the
monsoon which strikes between June and September.
Let’s talk about a few beaches in Maharashtra:
- Tarkarli - this is one of the cleanest beaches. The water is clean and blue. It is known to be isolated since you won’t find much crowd here. The sunset point here should not be missed at all. Water sports like banana ride, scuba diving, jet ride etc. are all safe and economical here. You can even have fun games of volleyball with friends.
- Ganapatipule - this is one of the most spectacular beaches along the Konkan Coast -
Aside from its
clean beach and clear waters, Ganapatipule is rich in flora, including mangroves
and coconut palms. It offers a variety of local preparations, like ambapoli
(thin pancakes of crushed and dried mango) and phanspoli (thin pancakes of
dried and crushed jackfruit), fish curries and the kokam kadi (a pink -
coloured digestive drink). For
vegetarians there is dal, vegetables prepared with a coconut base and modak - a
sweet (and a favorite dish of Lord Ganesh). Here, you can leave the hectic
world behind as you laze around
- Madh Island – this beach firstly is recommended because it is very nearby Mumbai. Hence no problem of transport whatsoever. It is one of the most popular beaches of Maharashtra. The green palm trees add a lot to the beauty and freshness. Weather is warm and humid here, but the sea breeze cools down the environment making the beach a perfect destination for tranquil holidays. There is a 300-year old fort having some amazing architectural designs. Nawab's palace and Janjira caves are the hot spots for tourists.
